Moana Kawelo reawakens her ‘aumakua mano, leading her into the shadowy depths of her family’s past. Through fragmented visions and long buried secrets, Moana traces her lineage, revealing concealed connections and unresolved trauma. In the ever-changing tides of Hawaiian identity, she must navigate the challenges of reclaiming her spiritual heritage and carrying on the kuleana that binds her family.

Lurline Wailana McGregor grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii in a community that reflected her own multi-cultural background, attending Punahou School from kindergarten through twelfth grade. After college, she spent several years on the continent, including a period working with the Senate Indian Affairs Committee in Washington, D.C. before returning home.

Her debut novel, Between the Deep Blue Sea and Me, won the American Indian Library Association’s 2010 Best Young Adult Fiction award. This is her second novel.
