Frances Kakugawa, an educator, eldercare consultant and the award-winning author of nineteen books, grew up in a rural Hawaiian village, in a rustic home with an outhouse complete with Sears Roebuck catalogs. In The Outhouse Poet she recounts how she later discovered a more modern "outhouse," with kindred spirits instead of catalogs to inspire a writer's soul-the local shopping mall.
